The 2026 Kia EV9

The Kia EV9 is a three-row all-electric SUV with genuine adult-usable seating in every row. For 2026 it adopts the NACS charging port, giving it direct access to Tesla Supercharger stations, and adds a blacked-out Nightfall Edition.

Three-row electric SUVs are still rare, and most of the ones that exist treat the third row as a technicality. The EV9 does not, which is a large part of why it has drawn the attention it has.

The 2026 headline: the charging port

For 2026 the EV9 moves to the North American Charging Standard port — the connector Tesla developed and the rest of the industry has now adopted.

The practical effect is straightforward. Supercharger stations become directly accessible without an adapter, which meaningfully expands where you can reliably charge on a road trip out of Birmingham. Adapter support for older CCS stations remains, so you are not giving anything up.

What else changed

Kia added a Nightfall Edition based on the Land trim, with gloss-black exterior accents, black wheels and a distinct interior treatment. All-wheel-drive trims also gain a terrain mode that replaces the previous four-wheel-drive mode.

Kia has also announced a high-performance GT version of the EV9. It has not reached U.S. dealers, and its launch here has been postponed indefinitely, so it is not something to plan a purchase around. Ask us and we will tell you what is actually orderable today.

The lineup, briefly

The EV9 comes in five trims: Light RWD, Light Long Range RWD, Wind AWD, Land AWD and GT-Line AWD. Light RWD uses the smaller 76.1-kWh battery; every other trim gets the 99.8-kWh pack. You can see what is on the ground here at any given moment.

The smaller pack suits drivers whose mileage is mostly local. The larger pack is the one to look at if you regularly drive longer distances — EPA-estimated range runs from roughly 230 miles on Light RWD to about 300 miles on Light Long Range RWD, with the all-wheel-drive trims falling in between. The rear-wheel-drive trims are single-motor; the all-wheel-drive trims are dual-motor and rated at 379 horsepower.

All versions share an 800-volt architecture, which is what lets the EV9 go from roughly 10 to 80 percent charge in about 20 to 25 minutes on a high-output DC fast charger, regardless of which trim you choose.

Range and charging times vary with trim, wheel size, weather and how you drive. Check the window sticker on the specific vehicle before you commit to one.

The third row is the point

A lot of vehicles claim three rows. The EV9’s is genuinely usable by adults, and there is real cargo space behind it rather than a token slot.

That combination is unusual. Most three-row crossovers force a choice between using the third row and carrying luggage. The EV9’s packaging — helped by not needing to accommodate an engine and transmission — largely avoids that compromise.

The question that decides it

Can you charge where you park overnight?

If yes, an EV9 is genuinely convenient. You leave each morning with a full battery and rarely think about charging at all. If you rely on public charging exclusively, the NACS port helps considerably but you are still managing logistics.

Answer that honestly first. It matters more than any specification. If budget is the constraint, our pre-owned inventory, pre-owned specials and under $22K selection are all worth reviewing.

Ownership

Kia’s EV coverage runs separately from the vehicle’s basic warranty. The EV System Warranty covers the high-voltage battery, electric motor, power control unit and on-board charger for 10 years or 100,000 miles from the date of first service, whichever comes first. Battery capacity is handled separately: if the pack drops below 70 percent of its original capacity inside that same window, Kia repairs or replaces it to restore at least 70 percent. Transfer terms depend on the vehicle and how it changes hands, so ask us and we will look up the specific coverage on the VIN you are considering.

Maintenance is simpler than a gas SUV: no oil changes, no spark plugs, no exhaust. Tires, cabin filters, brake fluid and battery thermal system service remain.
